The Oct/Nov 2013 issue of Canadian Biker is about to be sent to newsstands and to our subscribers. On the cover is the bike that might prove to be the one that initializes a great change at Harley-Davidson. The Electra Glides, available with or without “Twin Cooling”. Translated that is liquid cooling. A compact and hidden liquid cooling system that might just persuade the faithful that a liquid cooled big Twin might not be something to shy away from. We ride the new bikes (both the Electra Glide and the Street Glide) and discover that the most dramatic change to the new models isn’t the liquid motor but the one that makes the greatest improvement to life on the saddle of a big cruising bike.
Out in the wings but finally coming in from the cold are the all new Indian Chief models now brought to you compliments of Polaris. After all that the Indian Motorcycle brand has been through in the past 25 years Polaris knew when they unveiled the new from the ground up models built entirely under the Polaris umbrella they had better get it right. Did they?We’ll let you know what we think and then you can decide for yourself. They have the fenders, the saddle, the figurehead up front … but do they have the soul?
Honda knows that the world need new motorcyclist – particularly in North America. The company has been adding a sizable stable of bikes aimed at novice riders over the past couple of years. There were the NC bikes, the new CB bikes and now the CTX models. Two to be precise. The faired CTX700T and the naked CTX700N. As with all the bikes we look at in this issue, styling is going to be a very important factor the success of the model. Yes the CTX bikes have the power of Honda engineering behind them but is that going to be enough to strike a note of desire among the youth of today? Hmmm, going to take some pondering. In the meantime we will ride these two unusual offerings around Quebec City to see what they feel like to us more experienced fellows.
We head out on the road to a couple legendary motorcycling destinations … okay one is definitely a legendary spot while the other would certainly like to attain legendary status. The first is Sturgis, the second is Butte, MT. Butte! Yes Butte, the home of Evel Knievel Days of course.
