Moto Guzzi California 1400

On the cover of the September 2014 issue is the Moto Guzzi California 1400. The Italian cruiser comes in two flavours – Custom and Touring with the bike on the cover being the Custom. The big v-twin cruiser is a marvel in seemlessly combining  the latest in hi-tech with the iconic opposed motor that has, in various iterations, powered Guzzis since the early 1960s and has become one of the motorcycle industry’s most enduring powerplants. All that history aside, we ride the California in California and see that if style, technology and history can combine into a successful motorcycle. Realistically, what’s not to love?

Indian Scout Review

Indian Motorcycles under the Polaris flag have decided that Sturgis is going to be the event the company uses to launch their new models. They did it last year with the Chieftain and Chief and this year it is the new Scout. The Scout is interesting in several ways and not just for it’s low price. It is liquid-cooled, it is an entirely new platform separate from other Indian models and it looks unlike most other cruisers out there – especially those form American manufacturers. We join a few hundred thousand other riders and hit the roads around Sturgis on the new smaller offering from Polaris, sorry, Indian Motorcycles.

Honda CBR650F

No other motorcycle manufacturer has sent as many new models out into the world over the past two years as Honda. Bikes for new riders, bikes for old riders, bikes for intermediate riders. Intermediate is what the company has in mind for the CBR650F – sporty but not too sporty, aggressive but not too aggressive. Our intrepid contributor Bertrand Gahel jumps aboard the middle of the road 650 to see if the middle of the road is really where you want to be.

Suzuki V-Strom 1000

Climbing back aboard Suzuki’s new DL1000, we were reminded of what a great bike it is for the price. While Suzuki will sell you an SE version with saddlebags and a few other accessories, we look to the aftermarket to check out the possibilities of putting a more bash-ready, fall over recoverable ADV V-Strom together. It seems that the aftermarket already has the big Suzuki targeted.

Enough looking at new bikes. How about some riding? For September we explore the panhandle of Idaho, the Alberta foothills and take a long ride north in Ontario to the New Liskeard Biker’s Reunion because there is a lot of fun to be had on the shores of Lake Temiskaming – hey, isn’t that a poem?
