BMW and Ford have teamed up to invest in a Colorado-based company called Solid Power. The intent is to secure solid state batteries for future electric vehicles. Both companies apparently believe that less expensive, more energy-dense, solid state batteries are among the keys to the success of future electric vehicles while also improving safety and range in electric platforms.
While most of the development will be done for the automotive segment, the more compact solid state batteries will be a definite plus for the motorcycle side of BMW’s business as energy density alone should increase dramatically by 2030. As an added plus the batteries are said to be fully recyclable.
