Honda announced that with Marc Marquez’s MotoGP victory at this weekend’s 10th round of the 2015 FIM Road Racing World Championship held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway the company has achieved its 700th FIM Road Racing Championship Grand Prix victory. It all started way back in 1961 when Tom Phillis won the opening round Spanish Grand Prix on a RC143 in the 125cc class. In 1967 at the end of the season Honda announced – with 138 wins – the company was ending the factory racing effort. That hiatus lasted 11 years until the 1979 season but Honda didn’t win again until 1982 when Freddie Spencer rode to victory aboard a NS500. The rest – as they say – is history.
