When Peru withdrew its participation in the 2016 Dakar due to flooding and natural disaster, a new route needed to be found that encompassed the two remaining nations, Argentina and Bolivia. That route has just been finalized and Dakar organizers suggest that it will be a faster course with less sand dunes (always a photographers favourite) and more technical riding. Of the new routing Dakar General Manager Etienne Lavigne states “Thanks to the immediate involvement and unfailing commitment of the Bolivian and Argentinian authorities, we have found the right technical solutions to take on the new challenge posed to us at the end of August. The loyalty of the institutions in the two countries to the Dakar means we are now in a position to offer competitors a quality event for 2016”.
