It would look as though Yamaha has developed the ultimate in rally racing motorcycles – one that doesn’t even need to touch the ground. Think of the benefits! Unfortunately that isn’t the case. The Yamalube Yamaha factory race team is prepping for the 2018 Dakar which is just around the corner (and across stretches of Peru, Bolivia and Argentina). The great image is of team member Xavier de Soultrait aboard one of the WR450F rally bikes which will be promoting the “concept” Tenere 700 ADV middleweight during the event.
Proving that Ducati does not have a lock on obscure imagery and dramatic content, Yamaha Europe released a new teaser for a Yamaha product launch that we assume is a motorcycle from the Tron inspired riding suit. It is a “Ray of Darkness”(see it here). The accompanying blurb states “A big bang is imminent. And from it will emerge an explosive new breed of dark energy that is destined to reshape the MT world. Inspired by the dynamic forces coming out of the Dark Side of Japan, this forceful new creation redefines torque emotion. Nothing can prepare you for the changes that are about to happen. MT will never stand still.” Kind of leaves you speechless. All this cinemagraphic flash is leading up to manufacturer releases at the giant and globally significant EICMA show in Milan which starts rolling mid month. Ducati wrapped up their teaser releases with a “This is Sophistication” clip (here). As is often the case with sequels the level of originality dropped from “This is Black” and “This is X” but we all know it is difficult to maintain that level of excitement (see Hangover III or all the Terminator movies since T2). We’ll keep you posted as to what “This is Black” and “Ray of Darkness” are referring to but frankly it sounds a little ominous. And what is “torque emotion”?
