Yamaha has introduced a new and improved version of the company’s three wheel or “Leaning Multi Wheel” in Yamaha speak. The original LMW from Yamaha, the TriCity 125, was introduced back in 2014 and was available in Asia and Europe. This new TriCity 155 is expected to be on sale in Europe in the fall of 2016 with no plans to bring the machines to North America. Yamaha sees these small three wheeled vehicles appealing to non-motorcyclist in urban areas as a reliable and inexpensive form of transport and a segment that will help the company’s growth plans.
According to Yamaha press release “the TRICITY 155 has been developed around the concept of a “New Standard City Commuter for greater range of mobility and pride of ownership” and features the following characteristics:
1) A combination of the BLUE CORE engine and Yamaha Motor’s proprietary LMW design to achieve both greater running performance and fuel efficiency, 2) a newly-designed frame with improved rigidity and expanded flat foot board areas to provide a more comfortable riding position, 3) an expanded 23.5L underseat storage space, as well as an accessories compartment fitted with a DC power socket, 4) a newly-implemented parking brake, and 5) LED headlights and position lights which create a high-quality feel.”
