Diesel powered motorcycles have been an idea floated around the periphery for years and have been produced in small quantities for niche markets. The military likes the concept as the motorcycle fleet can run on the same fuel as the rest of the vehicles but at a consumer level they have never taken off. Suzuki has recently developed an intriguing small diesel engine intended for compact cars in India. The 793cc, 8-valve, intercooled turbo engine produces 46 hp and 92 ft-lb of torque at a low 2000 rpm. The fuel efficiency in a small car is over 65 mpg indicating a motorcycle application should get even better numbers. Not a motorcycle engine but definitely fuel for thought,
